It's the little things that separate us, make us unique!
Brits wear pants underneath their shorts. Yanks wear shorts underneath their pants.
I walk on the pavement. You might walk on the sidewalk (but don't drive on it or someone might think that you're an idiot!).
When it's my birthday, people here send me greetings. In Holland they also congratulate Hubby (for what? Having such an old wife?).
I like stitching on my pages. My friend does not.
We have red fire engines which connect to unobtrusive hydrants under the ground ... whereas Americans ...
I was fascinated to see a real "live" American fire hydrant when I visited Las Vegas. Even more intrigued to find that they came in different colours. Post-holiday Googling advised me that these two were just plain boring compared to some American hydrants, but they made me happy at the time :o)
This page was made with supplies from my November Counterfeit Kit for one of the challenges in the recent UKScrappers Cybercrop - to scrap about the little things that you spot along the way. Do you take photos of oddities when you are away from home? Do you scrap them?
And we won't even go into what Aussies call bumbags (even worse than their now infamous brand name for sticky tape!)
ReplyDeleteActually, it may be in America that they call it a fanny pack!
ReplyDeleteFun layout! Some of our hydrants are blue, but lots are red :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun and colourful layout
ReplyDeleteGreat layout....we were fascinated by the fire hydrants when we visited the USA....but what excited our girls most??.....seeing a guy face down on the ground with 3 police officers pointing enormous guns at him....I think I'm glad I don't encounter that walking down the street here!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat page!
ReplyDeleteWow, you learn something new every day when you read blogs, don't you? I'm really interetsed in that birthday tradition - wonder where it comes from?
You are taking me back to my food firsts - when I had a McDonalds for the first time in the States, I took a picture and I brought the napkins home with me..now, I've remembered another first :)
Our little town doesn't have city water so I am not at all sure where the fire department gets water from as no public water utility means there are no hydrants. I guess they hook up to the individual well pumps somehow. The hydrants in the town where I grew up were yellow, then they came over all patriotic a few years ago & were painted red, white & blue with stars.
ReplyDeleteIt' things like that I notice too....I was sure the post boxes in the US we re actually rubbish bins!...love the LO!
ReplyDeleteAlison xx
Yep I notice those sorts of things too - although for me I smile at the discreet (H) signs on the pavement and wonder how a fire fighter is meant to find it if it is dark, snowy, covered in leaves etc etc....
ReplyDeleteTook photos of the US jedi r2d2 mailboxes whilst in the US in 2007l
Love your layout - and it's subject matter! I guess I just assumed everyone had fire hydrants. I never really gave it much thought. LOL! Or mail boxes for that matter.
