Zoom In Zoom Out #8

My blog posts are a bit like buses ... nothing for ages and then three at once!  Today's post is me just about remembering to join in with Helena's ZIZO before the end of the "week".  I took the photos soon after ZIZO #7's power cut candles as they show some of the external effects of the recent 100mph winds ... and we got off relatively lightly hereabouts!

At first glance you see a healthy budding goat willow (I think?) but zoom out and you realise that the buds won't be developing any further!

Two trees in a small local park were simply ripped out at the roots.  Further along there were several trees which had withstood the winds to fight another day ...

... by sacrificing a limb or two.  So sad, but at least these particular trees hadn't damaged people or property.  I'd better check out who else joined in with Helena's meme before the next round starts!

  5. If you cut the willow "whips" the branches with the buds on them. Then stick them into the ground they will root and grow into trees. Make sure they are well away from drains and sewer pipes though because willow seeks out water.

  6. You never know with Willow - we had to cut one down and even tho' parts of it are in concrete (to make it safe to climb on) it has continued to grow quite happily...

  7. I love the close up of the willow bud and so sad to see it will not live to open. There has been so much devastation this winter but they make great shots.

  8. I'm always sad to see a tree uprooted. It's happened on our tree several times in the last few years. I've never heard of a goat willow.

  9. It's sad to see such beautiful trees down, but that's the real power of nature. We've got a tree down in our garden only sadly it's fallen on another tree and as our garden is still waterlogged we can't really walk on it to cut it down properly.

I did have to giggle at your busses comment ..., you could have been talking about me too

  10. A really great example of how a close up shot doesn't always reveal the truth

  11. Another set of great photos - those winds were indeed horribly scary but, as you say, at least those trees didn't do any harm (apart from to themselves)
