No, I haven't been careless with my craft knife, just attempting to get with the program and splat some ink/paint onto a page in a random artful way. Like having banners everywhere, I just don't "get" it. Or at least not on every page! However, over at UKScrappers and on her blog, Shimelle is doing a monthly challenge to get us to try out lots of "different" techniques; this month they included splatting, small square photos, paint under titles, writing in more than one place, adding stitches & glitter ... all on one page! Too much for me in one go, and not all all-that-different to what I already do, so I picked the "scariest" one (the splatting) and a couple of the others that I am comfortable with (small square photos, writing in more than place) and produced this:
I'm pretty happy with the page, but part of me does think that my brown paint splats do look like dried blood! Maybe I should have chosen grey paint to splat with?

That's my January Counterfeit Kit almost used up ... I'm now down to scraps. Take a look at the back of this page to see how I was struggling to get a 12x12 out of it!
I think the splatters work perfectly with this page....and,of course, they could be Sangria splatters, rather than blood splatters!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Sangria as well; maybe at lunch, in fact! I have to try some splattering too - maybe I can control it more than misting, I hope so. Great page - thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI like the overall effect of the page - I'm with you in not 'getting' paint splatters' Ther paella loos delicious anyway
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of splatters and banners :) - go on, do a few banners next! I think the only thing to "get" is that they can be fun to do..
ReplyDeleteWe discovered paella at a food festival here at home and now it's a bit of a favourite; but your journaling reminds me of the time we went on a walking tour of Naples with a "chance to make your own pizza" at the end. One person got to put one pizza in the oven!
i like you're splatters and there's nothing wrong with a bit of gutting to stretch your stash.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like an interesting challenge...I will have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI love the layout and do not think of dried blood at all!
Thanks for the kind tip about heat embossing. I hardly ever emboss and part of my 2012 goals is to branch out more!t I will certainly use your idea. I thought they both sounded so logical!
LOL - I did a page about some bird ornaments and used white paint splatters - it was only afterwards that I realised that the paint looked a bit like the stuff that birds are so generous with! I wouldn't have thought blood 'til you said it :) and I love you stretching your stash!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, fun layout!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm always afraid of getting paint everywhere so that is a technique that I shy away from! LOL It looks really cool though! I am loving your holiday album! Looks like a lot of fun!!! xoxo
