Welcome to August's Ten. Ten is a
big number. I quite often start off with a great idea for a theme for a Ten and then realise that I have just an Eight, or a Seven or even a Three. That's what happened when I was thinking about "
Why I Scrapbook", prompted by a challenge at
Merly Impressions:
- It's my hobby - everyone needs a hobby, right? This is my indoor one.
- To relive the moment. Scrapping the photos brings back the sights, smells and sounds of holiday adventures, first day of school nerves, choked back tears of pride at concerts and prize-givings, heartstring tugs at long-ago milestones ...
- It's creative and lets my inner artist see the light of day.
- My memory needs help. I'm in my 50s and already the dates and details are jumbling up. When did we visit that theme park? Who was it that dressed up as a devil for Halloween? Where was our first beach holiday? I see my albums as insurance against old age!
- Stories are important. My story. My children's stories. Our traditions. Our family histories.
- Scrapbooking is for keeps - the pages are for my albums, my legacy of memories, preserving my photos
- Scrapbooking is for sharing - the pages are for looking at together, hand-made with love, passing on the moments to friends and family and anyone else who is willing to be pinned down to the sofa under a stack of 12x12 albums!
So that got me to a Seven. But I needed a Ten. Then I remembered
a particular photo taken last summer: My children and No.1 Son's
girlfriend ex, relaxing in the garden, looking through some scrapbooks, chatting about the photos, remembering the holidays, teasing each other over the hairstyles or the clothes or the forgotten stories revealed. And thus I had my remaining Three.

No full sheets of patterned paper were harmed during the making of this layout - scraps only! |
Why do you scrapbook? Do you have Ten reasons? Or different Ten to share? Why not link up with Shimelle and her readers
here (providing she has managed to escape the Olympics)

Love your reasons, and your last three are so potent! Great page, and the colours are lovely together. I know what you mean about it adding one's memory!

I so agree - ten is a lot and most my lists come to about 7. Fabulosu photo and love the colours in your layout
Oh goodness, what does it say about me that I have to keep my lists down to 10? LOL
I agree there are so many reasons to scrapbook - my favorite reason is that it's just plain fun!
Gorgeous layout! And your 7 (10) reasons are the best reasons to scrapbook, but aren't all reasons good? Thank you for playing along with us and good luck!
Some great reasons there....and I love the page you've made....gorgeous colours....and a great design.
Great 10, and I love your layout :)
It's good to think about why we do things sometimes. I like your ten, and have visions of arms and legs appearing from under your scrapbooks on the sofa!
Love your Ten Things..and the LO!

I absolutely love it when I catch my family looking through the scrapbooks.

Super LO - I love the way you've stitched over the twine to provide a frame - what patience you have! Love it! I've pinned that close up so I can remember to try that myself one day when I feel the need to stitch again!
I adore this layout - everything about it is just amazing!
I love that photo and LO jj. It's so nice that your work is appreciated not only by fellow paper strokers but by the kids too.
Thanks for sharing! I love your 10 Things :)
Great list of reasons! I scrap for similar ones
I see you left the best 3 reasons for last - cute page too!
Oh yes I need that memory boost too. Thank goodness for digital photography - it's the only way I have of remembering the dates!
Thanks for the comment on my blog.
great post and layout x
Your 'no full sized sheets of paper' comment made me laugh, now I don't have a crop to hand scraps to I've got to sort out my scraps.
Cool twine treatment and flags. Ten reasons is a lot - but I like your last three as well as your blog journaling - reliving the moment so true.
